Introduction
Many fiber optic network bids and Requests For Quote (RFQ) cite cabling standards to specify guidelines (e.g., fiber length) for network installation. Adherence to these standards ensures installation quality and network performance.
Equipment
- Fiber OWL 7V (p/n: F7V):
- Optical power meter compatible with singlemode.
- Features a user-friendly Fiber Link Wizard with color diagrams for setup, link budget calculation, and optical reference.
- Can store up to 10,000 fiber runs in memory and download reports via OWLView software.
- WaveSource Pro SM (p/n: WPSX):
- Designed for accurate testing and certification of singlemode (1310nm & 1550nm) networks.
- Temperature-stabilized dual-wavelength outputs for precision.
Ports and Connectivity
- F7V Universal Detector Port:
- Two adapter caps for 2.5mm connectors (SC, ST, FC) and 1.25mm connectors (LC).
- Length testing port and visual fault locator are also LC.
- WPSX Features:
- Auto-wavelength switching protocol to synchronize with the F7V.
Test Kit
Fiber OWL 7V SM Test Kit: Tools for certifying fiber optic links against various cabling standards in singlemode networks, known as Tier 1 certification.
Certification Process
Certification is the process of testing adherence to specified standards, often requiring hard-copy documentation. Intelligent automated testing functions, including automatic dual-wavelength storage and auto-wavelength recognition, reduce testing time and human error.

LANshack: Best custom CAT8 ethernet cable on the market!
I needed a custom 55 foot S/FTP (Shielded Foiled Twisted Pair) CAT8 indoor ethernet cable for ethernet backhaul between two Eero mesh routers. I did tons of research (including Grok) and I came across LANshack.com. They have the thickest 23AWG wire in their custom CAT8 cable vs 26AWG on Amazon (lower number is thicker; 23AWG wire has roughly twice the cross-sectional area of 26AWG). Excellent price per foot, and this cable is thick! Very quick turnaround once you order from them. I am very pleased with LANshack and I will order from them again for future projects!
